Before you buy a charger
Real assessment, not a photo guess.
EV charger installs vary wildly. The same charger fitted at two different homes can cost £250 at one and £1,200 at the other — depending on the supply, the consumer unit, and the cable route to the parking spot.
A pre-purchase survey takes the guesswork out before you commit. We come to your home, check the supply, plan the cable route, assess your fuse box, and write you a fixed quote — no obligation, no pressure to proceed.
It’s free. The written assessment from an OZEV approved installer is yours to keep, whether you proceed with us or use it to compare quotes elsewhere. No obligation either way.
The offer
Free in-person. No obligation.
Onsite survey, written quote, no obligation. Book it through us or use the quote afterwards to shop around — the assessment is yours either way.
What we check
What's actually in the survey.
A real survey takes 30–45 minutes onsite, with a written quote following by email. We don’t sell off the back of the visit — we just give you the information you need to make a confident decision.
Three example outcomes
What you might find out from the survey.
Surveys broadly produce three types of result. None of them is good or bad — they just describe what your specific home needs. The point is to know which one applies before you’ve spent money on a charger that might not fit your supply.
OUTCOME 01
Most common outcome
Straightforward install
Your consumer unit is fine. Cable route is short and clean. Charger goes on the wall, RCBO added, done in a day. Quote lands in Tier 1 territory — typically £250–£400 for installation.
OUTCOME 02
Common
Some upgrade work needed
Older fuse box, longer cable run, or both. We’d quote consumer unit upgrade alongside the install. Tier 2 territory — typically £600–£1,000 for installation plus board work.
OUTCOME 03
Less common
Bigger job, but possible
Long underground SWA run, supply upgrade or DNO application needed, or full consumer unit replacement. We quote it, you decide. Tier 3 territory — but you know what you’re getting into before you commit.
How it works

FAQs
Survey questions, answered.
Don't other installers offer free quotes too?
Most of them offer free DESKTOP quotes — based on photos you send through. Ours is a free IN-PERSON survey, which is a different thing entirely. Photo quotes routinely turn into ‘we found something on the day’ surprise charges; an onsite visit produces a fixed price you can trust. The difference is the visit, not the price.
Do I need to be home for the survey?
Yes — the survey takes 30–45 minutes and we need you (or anyone over 18 with access to the property) to be present. We need to look at the fuse box, walk the cable route, and discuss where you’d like the charger fitted.
What if you can't fit my install in within a reasonable time after the survey?
The survey report is yours regardless of timing. Use it whenever you’re ready to proceed with us, or use it to brief another installer if our schedule doesn’t suit. There’s no time pressure and no obligation either way.
Can I just send you photos instead of an in-person visit?
For a rough indication, yes — send photos of your fuse box (open if possible), the meter cupboard, and the spot where you want the charger. We’ll come back with a ballpark range. For a fixed-price quote, we need to be onsite.
Do you survey rental properties? My landlord is considering an EV charger.
Yes — we cover landlord-arranged surveys regularly. Either party (landlord or tenant) can book it. See our Landlord EV Charging page for the full picture on rental properties.
What happens if the survey reveals my home can't take a charger at all?
Genuinely rare — most homes can take some form of charger, even if it requires creative routing. But if it really isn’t viable (very old supply with no DNO upgrade path, or restrictive listed-building consent), we’ll tell you straight. You’ll still get a written report explaining exactly why, which can be useful for landlord conversations or insurance claims down the line.
Is the survey report formal enough to use with other installers?
Yes. The report covers everything an installer would need to quote — supply details, board photos, route, distances, any issues. You’re free to use it to get comparison quotes. We’d hope our quote is competitive, but the choice is yours either way.
